Karan’s Coffee With Sharmila Tagore: What She Heard About Saif-Amrita Feeling “Doubly Deprived” When They Split Up, One Day After Their Wedding

New Delhi: Film legend Sharmila Tagore attended the most recent episode of Karan Johar’s talk program Koffee With Karan 8 with her son and actor Saif Ali Khan, making it a memorable one. The topics of discussion strayed to include movies, family relationships, and more. Regarding Saif Ali Khan and his former spouse Amrita Singh, presenter Karan Johar said during the program, “He arrived at one location and never left. It was the home of Amrita Singh. When he arrived for the first time, you never left.” Karan Johar said, “And Soha (Saif’s sister) tells me that eventually when it culminated into marriage, she was 13 and a classmate told her, your brother just got married.”

Speaking on the union, Saif Ali Khan said, “I remember telling my mother.” “In reality, I was visiting Mumbai for something, and Saif came to meet me,” said Sharmila Tagore. And he informed me, saying, “I have something to tell you.” Naturally, he said, “Amma, you’re quiet and your color is changing and you are looking different.” I don’t remember what I was doing at the time. I also informed him that we would discuss it later. After he departed, I called Tiger to let him know, and he remained silent for a while before we parted ways. I said, “I’d like to meet her,” after that. The next day, I spoke with Amrita over the phone as we had tea and she was still somewhat startled.

Karan Johar questioned Saif, “How does one suddenly get married at that age?” The actor retorted, “In a way, it was similar to running away from home.” I got a sense of security and thought that it feels fantastic, but I don’t recall a lot of what happened. I believed I could turn anything into a home.” Sharmila Tagore went on to say that there were many similarities between Saif and Amrita Singh. “They were both very alike. They were both really hilarious. Every time they spoke, there would be a lot of laughing, impersonating others, and hilariously ripping someone to pieces. She tells wonderful stories, and he is skilled at impersonation. They seemed really happy together,” she said.

Saif went on to say that after learning of his and Amrita’s marriage, his mother was encouraging. “I recall that Sharmila Tagore gave me encouragement when I performed it. “I think you are living with someone and you are doing something,” she had stated. After I said yes, she advised against getting married. I also said that I just got married. And a large tear dropped from her eye. She began to weep and cried, “Why didn’t you tell me that you really hurt me?” Thus, Saif Ali Khan said, “That’s actually what transpired there.”

The actor remarked, “About the separation, the first person I spoke to before the separation was my mother, who took a deep breath and there was another pause on the phone and said, I am with you if that is what you want and that helped a lot.” He also mentioned that Sharmila Tagore was the first person he spoke to before he and Amrita separated.

An Asymmetrical Turn in Black Ensembles
Sharmila Tagore said, “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy,” in reference to Saif and Amrita’s split. Then, it’s not in tune with… Although I tried, the time was unpleasant since I knew it would be hard to maintain unity at that point because everyone was upset. However, that’s beside the point; she need some time to calm down.”

It was a difficult period, Sharmila Tagore said, not just for Saif but also for the family. “There are a lot of other factors involved; it’s not just about keeping away. We were quite attached to the kids, and Ibrahim was just three, so it wasn’t a joyous moment for us. In particular, Tiger had a lot of affection for Ibrahim and would remark, “That’s a good lad.” That time with him was not given to him. We so felt doubly bereaved at losing both Amrita and the two children. Therefore, it’s not him, but we also had to get used to it.”
Following thirteen years of marriage, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh separated in 2004. Their wedding took place in 1991. Ibrahim Ali Khan is the son of Saif and Amrita, while Sara Ali Khan is their daughter. Actor Kareena Kapoor and Saif tied the knot in 2012; they have two boys, Taimur and Jeh.
