Kit Harington, a GoT actor, finds “faulty” characters fascinating: “I’m Not Into Heroic Roles”

In his new film Blood for Dust, Kit Harington adopts a vicious murderer persona, going full evil. Following his 2019 season as HBO’s Jon Snow, the actor was searching for opportunities of this kind. The actor recently acknowledged to Entertainment Weekly that he has grown weary of playing the hero in his movies and is interested in taking on negative parts.

Harington, who leans toward portraying parts with shades of gray, said, “I have to admit that there seems to be some pushback about playing a hero if I look at the roles I’ve taken since playing an out-and-out hero in ‘Game of Thrones.'” Heroic roles don’t really appeal to me, and the ones that do must be somehow anti-heroic.

The Game of Thrones actor went on to say, “My heart goes out to people playing heroes,” further acknowledging the difficulties that come with the role. They’re very challenging to play and keep engaging. It’s more difficult to [play] a man who is motivated by goodness and who is doing everything properly. Additionally, I believe that successful actors who portray traditional heroic characters are very gifted. During the same exchange, Harington said that it is more difficult to sympathize with the negative parts and that the “faulty” and “wrong” characters are more intriguing.

The HBO spinoff for Game of Thrones has been canceled, the actor announced earlier this month. Interestingly, Harington was getting ready to play Jon Snow again for the series that will revolve on the brave hero. But it seems that the actor’s aversion to heroes prevented him from reprising his role as one of the most beloved characters.

Speaking of Harington’s Blood for Dust, the movie is slated to release on April 19 in cinemas and online. Josh Lucas and Scoot McNairy will play the key roles in the movie. For those who are unaware, after the conclusion of Game of Thrones, actor Kit Harington’s character, Jon Snow, was banished from Westeros and set off on a new voyage with the Wildlings and his dire wolf Ghost, heading for the Haunted Forest.
