Recently starring in the courtroom drama Patna Shuklla, Anushka Kaushik feels it’s crucial for her to comprehend the reality of every character she portrays on television

Actress Anushka Kaushik is overjoyed when Patna Shuklla receives excellent ratings on Disney+Hotstar. One of the movie’s main characters, her narrative is just as important as Raveena Tandon’s, the lead actress. These ladies are together in their opposition to the dishonest educational system. Anushka’s path from modest beginnings to skyrocketing fame is largely attributed to her commitment to her work.

Anushka’s introduction to the limelight started with a straightforward desire to express herself via performance and movement. “I began my journey as a dancer,” she says, thinking back to her early Saharanpur years. “I thought I would start as a dancer and then pursue acting because we did not have much exposure to theater in my hometown of Saharanpur.” She later followed her passion for dancing to the theater, honing her skills in local and college shows.

Anushka used auditions as her entry point into the performing profession when chances in conventional theater became limited. “As outsiders, the only other option available to us is to give auditions,” she says. Anushka discovered a new venue for her abilities by embracing the internet era. She collaborated with many networks and amassed a vast audience of over 300 million. She remembers, “In my early days on YouTube, I played a lot of urban characters, but I had this underlying desire to try and do varied things, which I had learned in theatre.”

OTT area

With the release of Thar and series like Crash Course and Garmi, where Anushka delves sensitively and nuancedly into difficult people, the OTT audience’s yearning for variety and depth was satisfied. As she considers how she prepared for parts such as that of Bundelkhandi in Lust Stories, she emphasizes how crucial it is to comprehend her characters’ worlds. She acknowledges the difficulties of accurately and sympathetically capturing the world of a sex worker, saying, “To know the world of a character is very important.”

Beyond her work in movies and television, Anushka is a fervent supporter of self-defense instruction and feels it ought to be a required subject in schools. She emphasizes, “Self-defence is an extremely important element in itself,” relating her own experience of studying the martial art of Wing Chun, which was created by a female monk. “I firmly believe that learning and practicing martial arts should be an option for everyone.”

Anushka has had the honor of collaborating on films with a number of well-known directors and performers who have had a significant influence on her technique. She adds of her encounter with Tigmanshu Dhulia, “I was in as soon as I realized it was his project.” I really like how well he was able to link the scenes, which was the finest part of working with him.

Anushka has gained valuable experience working with superstars like as Kajol, Raveena Tandon, and the late Satish Kaushik. She remembers her conversation with Kajol and is amazed at how the actress can recognize even the minute details in her performance. She grinned and said, “I have grown up dancing to Kajol’s songs.”

An inspiring tale of bravery

Anushka plays Rinki Kumari in her most recent movie, Patna Shuklla,” a heroine whose tenacity and resolve really appeal to her. “It is a narrative of her bravery and courage,” she says, emphasizing the significance of standing up for what is right and true. While collaborating with Raveena Tandon, Anushka was inspired by her co-star’s life knowledge and perspective in addition to her technical prowess. “She taught me valuable life lessons,” Anushka muses.

Anushka speaks warmly of her colleague Satish Kaushik, with whom she collaborated on Thar and Patna Shuklla: “He used to always call me Kaushik.” I was once approached by a young performer who wanted to know whether I was related to Satish Kaushik. If only I were his family. However, I believe that throughout the process of making this movie, he somehow joined my family.

Anushka stays rooted in her dedication to connection and storytelling despite experiencing both highs and lows in her line of work. The worst thing, she says, is that there are no deadlines for work. She recognizes the difficulties in juggling her personal and professional lives. However, it is exactly this unpredictable nature that feeds her love of acting by serving as a constant reminder of the transformational potential of stories.
