Review of “Kaam Chalu Hai” the film: This very dramatic movie is uninteresting and stagnant

All that has to be said is that Kaam Chalu Hai, starring Rajpal Yadav, has the proper heart. It narrates the tale of Manoj Patil, who loses his daughter in a pothole-related car accident. Motivated by an actual event, Patil decides to cover every gap on his own when the authorities refuse to assist him.

The narrative reveals the government’s complacent behavior and does it with real emotion. But a newspaper article may elicit the same emotion to a sufficient degree. The movie offers little in the way of heartfelt engagement. It uses exaggerated expressions to highlight the pain in the story, which results in an overly dramatic and sometimes boring tale.

In addition to writing and directing the movie, Palaash Muchhal also composed the soundtrack. This is his second partnership with Yadav after Ardh (2022). For the most of his career, the actor has gained notoriety from small-scale comedic relief parts. It is a little difficult to see beyond his pre-established persona. But as an actor, he has the range and size to emote even in dire situations, as seen before in Apurva (2023).

His feelings are really released even in Kaam Chalu Hai, but the movie’s lack of interest in exploring other options doesn’t help. He visits the pothole that caused his daughter’s death in a sequence that occurs at the end of the second act. He settles down next to it and soon begins to weep. With every second that goes by, the performance becomes more intense. The sequence is less poignant and more uncomfortable because of how long it is. His screams never stop growing, and there is no sense of dread in the air.

These kinds of sequences, when the underlying emotions are too weak to sustain, are prevalent throughout the movie. Real-life events are streamlined with compelling tales in the film media. Here, predictability and the exploitation of tragedy take center stage in its fixation with telling the true narrative. All of the movie’s strong attempts to heighten the drama come off as archaic and out of place.

Simply because the movie has a nice heart doesn’t provide sufficient excuses for its flaws. Crucial moments that use cinematic language to heighten the emotional heart of the scenario set apart a newspaper story from a movie.

The movie only repeats the plot of the trailer. Even throughout its short eighty-minute duration, it finds it difficult to stay afloat. Its creators are the only ones who seem to know why its material seems to be stretched. Kaam Chalu Hai essentially stays an issue-based movie with a story full of gaps in it and a lot of recognizable rhythms.
