Rooney Mara announces her second pregnancy with Joaquin Phoenix during the Berlin Film Festival

Rooney Mara has a growing baby. The actress announced her pregnancy on the red carpet of the present Berlin International Film Festival on Friday night. She is expecting her second child with her actor husband Joaquin Phoenix.

On Friday night, Rooney Mara’s latest movie, La Cocina (The Kitchen), had its world debut at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany. The Carol star was spotted cuddling her baby bump while wearing a gorgeous black strapless Givenchy gown. Photos of her on the red carpet surfaced on X, where the story was disseminated by the actor’s fan sites.

River, the son of Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, was born in 2020. He was given the name River Phoenix in honor of Joaquin’s late brother, the actor, who passed away in 1993 at the age of 23 after a heroin overdose.

Regarding Joaquin and Rooney’s partnership
Rooney recently discussed parenthood with Joaquin on her LaunchLeft podcast. She stated, “It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first three and a half years we were together,” when speaking with guest Rain Phoenix, Phoenix’s sister. Basically, in the period that we have been dating, I have only worked once or twice, and that one job was quite brief. We’re often talking about creative topics, so it seems like a creative home.”

On the filming of Spike Jonze’s film Her in 2012, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara became friends and later became a very discreet pair. In the movie, Rooney portrayed his ex-wife. The pair went on to feature in Mary Magdalene and will next be seen in The Island, the highly anticipated thriller from renowned filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski.
