There was backlash when a producer revealed that Mamta Kulkarni will be the subject of a biopic

In the 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni had a short but fruitful career as a glam doll. Her contentious career started in 1992 with the release of Tirangaa. Her role in Aashiq Awara in 1993 earned her a Lux New Face of the Year Award from Filmfare. She has worked with Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar, among other well-known stars. She left her job and her nation to pursue legal issues and criminal activity after marrying a suspected drug dealer.

Audiences from the 1990s still remember her with great affection. She is well known for her infamous Stardust cover, in which she bravely posed nude and even went to prison for vulgarity. Actually, Mamta was a perfect fit for the social media age.

She arrived a bit early. To put it mildly, Mamta Kulkarni’s true life tale would make a lot more compelling movie than any of the successes from the 1990s. She did compose an autobiography in which she discussed her spiritual encounters and wrote about her experiences. Nobody that I am aware of has read it.

When aspiring actor and now-aspiring producer Nikhil Dwivedi announced that he would be producing a biopic on 1990s starlet Mamta Kulkarni, rumors spread throughout the Indian film industry, with many wondering if Bollywood was taking the “easy way out” by using real-life stories as inspiration because it was lacking good scripts.

Industry critics who felt there were more worthy subjects to tackle than a movie on Kulkarni—who is “remembered more for her marriage to an alleged drug dealer than for her acting prowess”—were given a fresh lease of life by the subject.

Director of Kashmir Files Vivek Agnihotri had correctly said, upon learning about the Kulkarni biography, “Why are we doing poor biopics on mediocre subjects? What is the purpose of focusing on Mamta Kulkarni instead of the renowned actress Nargis Dutt, and why is there not a good biography of Mrs. Indira Gandhi? Oomph is the solution, to put it simply.
