Throwback to Jaya Bachchan’s birthday: When she said that she doesn’t mind being the focus of memes

February 2024 saw the debut of the first episodes of the video podcast “What the Hell, Navya Season 2,” which starred Navya Nanda, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and Jaya.
Meanwhile, seasoned actress Jaya Bachchan chastised social media content makers for using her likeness in memes, telling them to do it “right” if they wanted to exploit her name or image to reach a wider audience.

The 75-year-old said, “No, I mean, I don’t mind (to be a topic for memes)” during a talk on the podcast What The Hell with her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda and daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda. When Navya asked Jaya whether she recognized the social media slang term “Jaya-ing” and was aware of how memes were generated about her, she said, “But the people who are doing the memes are so bad, they should do it properly.”

In the first episode of Season 2 of Navya’s podcast, which is now available as a YouTube video series, the three Bachchan sisters spoke about misconceptions, the importance of financial independence, and the difficulties experienced by women. Within 24 hours of its YouTube debut, the episode had over 36,000 views.
Even though “housewifing” was seen as a full-time job, Jaya, who made her most recent appearance in Karan Johar’s 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, said in the honest interview that moms and housewives were taken for granted.
The seasoned actress said that she finds it “wonderful” that so many women are now employed in the film industry. Jaya instantly answered Navya’s inquiry regarding the number of women who had worked on sets in the past by saying, “None! except from the hairstylist. Constantly a female.”
“The younger generation wanted to speak and express themselves,” Jaya said, talking about the many roles that women are now occupying, including those of designers, makeup artists, stylists, hairdressers, and camera operators.
Jaya stressed, “I definitely felt that every girl, child, or woman had to be financially independent,” insisting that a woman’s income was irrelevant.
Jaya called Shweta her “strength,” but Navya held her mother’s hand and acknowledged her mother’s influence on her life.
