When Arshad Warsi, the birthday boy, returned Golmaal in the wrong way, director Rohit Shetty

The greats of our cinema, God bless them, have a tendency to speak without thinking and then complain about being misquoted. This writer has had more than his fair share of unpleasant encounters with Bollywood’s biggest naysayers. The most significant instance of “I was misquoted” that I encountered included Arshad Warsi, who expressed dissatisfaction in a taped interview about the duration of his part after the 2008 release of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Returns.

According to Arshad Warsi, he was not happy with director Rohit Shetty’s treatment of him in his most recent movie. “I was astonished when my buddies and I viewed the movie. I wasn’t really present. I realized that I wasn’t shooting much even while the movie was being made, and that too at a time when I really needed time off to get my life together. I was told the script as if it were a narrative between myself and Ajay Devgan. Can you believe that? Regretfully, our screenwriters are not so much adept at creating scripts as they are at narrating.

Arshad continued after that. He continued to bemoan the duration of his part in the subsequent films directed by Rohit Shetty. “I wasn’t content with my part in Sunday or Golmaal-Fun Unlimited either. I was at least involved in the major narrative of the original Golmaal, even though it was mostly about Ajay, Sharman, and Tusshar Kapoor. In the most recent movie, I’m simply aimlessly strolling about.

After then, Arshad continued to criticize Kareena for her part in Golmaal Returns. Kareena has the same sentiment! She is as minimal as I am. I’ve been let down by Rohit three times already. But this is undoubtedly the final instance.

Arshad felt that he needed to evaluate his profession after being let down time and time again. “I won’t let myself be taken advantage of now that I am a producer and my first movie, Kaun Bola, is almost ready for release. I will never again blindly trust a director. Aside from my sequences, I also want to know what the other characters are doing in the movie when I read a screenplay.

Arshad’s outburst had immediate and devastating aftereffects. In a conversation with the writer the next day, Rohit Shetty vowed never to collaborate with Arshad once again.

“Arshad has a lot of complaints about his role in Golmaal Returns,” Rohit stated, looking irate and unhappy. I don’t know why Arshad is so angry. I’ll never again collaborate with Arshad. He is quite justified in feeling the way he does. Golmaal Returns is a tale about four men, as everyone knows. Is it really simply an Ajay-Arshad movie? I gave Kareena and Arshad the screenplay for Golmaal Returns while I was working on Sunday.

They both said “yes.” Tusshar Kapoor is receiving praise for Golmaal Returns. Is Ajay entitled to take offense at this? Arshad has just four hits—Munnabhai, Golmaal, and their sequels—after going through so much hardship. He adds, “I’ve betrayed him three times.” Was he so infatuated with me that, even after I had cheated on him, he kept believing in me? Is it possible that I coerced him three times to cooperate with me? He ought to be pleased with his movie’s success. However, he is ready to take on more significant tasks at this point. He performed Saher as a lone lead, nevertheless. It’s an excellent movie, but it didn’t fare well.

Arshad knew exactly what he was getting into in Golmaal, didn’t he? My film was meant for a general audience. I was competent in my work. Without any other heroes in the same movie, what has he accomplished in his career? He is pouting rather than being pleased to be in a hit movie.

I advised Rohit to discuss it with Arshad. Rohit was insistent, however. Not at all. He won’t be working with me again. I am now revealing my intentions to create Golmaal 3 sans Arshad. Without Arshad, Munnabhai and Golmaal might function with any other performer in Arshad’s place. Why is he so consumed with himself? He needs a dose of realism. He’s got financial problems. He’ll agree to Golmaal 3 if I pay him an additional Rs 1.5 crore after he claims to have been duped.

Neither Arshad Warsi nor Rohit Shetty communicated to this reporter again after this heated altercation in which the two sides were referred to as “Mess.” The two never collaborated once again.
