Will Akaay, the kid of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, be a British citizen? What we know is as follows

The birth of their second kid, Akaay, on February 15 was recently announced by celebrity couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. Akaay was born at a hospital in London. His birth in the UK raised questions regarding his citizenship, with many speculating as to whether he would become a British citizen or keep his Indian citizenship.

Sports Tak reports that Akaay is not immediately a British citizen, despite rumors to the contrary. According to the laws, citizenship is not a given just because someone was born in the United Kingdom. In order to be eligible, at least one parent has to be a citizen of the United Kingdom or have obtained established status via prolonged residency. In a similar vein, depending on the parents’ citizenship status, a child born outside of the UK to British citizens may also be eligible to hold British citizenship.
In Akaay’s situation, he is ineligible for British citizenship even though he was born in London and his parents own property there. Even though Akaay will have a UK passport, he will still be considered an Indian citizen.
In 2017, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli exchanged vows in a religious ceremony. They brought home their first kid, Vamika, in January 2021, and their second child, a male named Akaay, in 2024.
