The origins and development of cardiovascular care

The Cardiac Wellness Institute was founded in 2014 with the goal of providing preventative cardiology care to individuals in need in India. The institution celebrated reaching a landmark 10-year milestone at the Taj Coromandel Chennai on Friday.

Dr. Priya Chockalingam established the institution, which is a leader in preventative treatment, with the goal of “reversing cardiovascular diseases by compassion and a holistic approach.” “A sound clinical work and scientific research go hand in hand,” says Dr. Priya, the founder and clinical director. The center, which operates under the tagline “heart, health, and happiness,” has been helping patients with cardiac issues get well. “They receive cutting-edge care, but the underlying cause of the illness is not treated, leading to more complications in the years to come and a major decline in their quality of life,” she says.

It used to be widely accepted that heart-related disorders were more frequent among elderly males. The times have evolved. All age groups and genders are now equally vulnerable. “Aging has drastically decreased as a result of environmental and lifestyle changes. Priya notes, “We are now two decades earlier than the population in the West.”

The center treats its patients using a multidisciplinary and all-encompassing strategy that addresses every aspect of prevention, from primary prevention to secondary prevention of the heart. Primordial prevention aims to prevent the beginning of diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol issues, obesity, and addiction while raising public awareness of cardiac disease.

The physician says that young people are the intended audience for this, since signs of cardiovascular problems begin to appear around the age of 20. According to Dr. Priya, the American Heart Association advises that everyone should get a cardiovascular health examination once every five years starting at age 20, and that after age 40, examinations should be done more regularly, maybe every one or two years.

The third role of cardiac prevention is to identify individuals who have previously received a diagnosis of a disease. Treating those who have been diagnosed with heart issues is secondary prevention. In order to reverse coronary blockages, physicians collaborate closely with patients and their family members. Patients with a diagnosis of cardiac problems go to the last stage, known as tertiary prevention.

The wellness center has also released a number of studies demonstrating that emerging nations like India may also choose to avoid heart attacks. “We were discovering that possibilities exist. The fact that the age gap has closed and that younger people are more vulnerable makes Dr. Priya believe that the future is not looking good. She recommends that the habits formed for a better future include eating in moderation, getting regular exercise, improving sleeping circumstances, abstaining from smoking, lowering stress levels, and taking frequent exams. “Taking care of one’s heart is equally and notably important, while career achievements and personal enjoyment are important,” the speaker asserts.
