A 5.5-magnitude earthquake strikes Pakistan

The National Centre for Seismology announced in a statement that an earthquake with a Richter Scale of 5.5 struck the western region of Pakistan early on Wednesday morning.

At 2:57 am, seismic activity was detected at a depth of 105 kilometers.

The National Centre for Seismology said, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.5, Occurred on 20-03-2024, 02:57:11 IST, Lat: 29.74 & Long: 65.93, Depth: 105 km, Location: Pakistan,” in a post on the microblogging platform X (previously Twitter).

More information is anticipated.

The NCS reports that the epicenter of the earthquake was located close to the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan at latitude 29.74 and longitude 65.93, respectively.

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Pakistan earlier on February 17 was also felt close to Islamabad.

Pakistan was hit by an earthquake in January that measured 4.3 on the Richter scale.

Just in January, Pakistan was rocked by another earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0, as reported by Dawn and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
