After civilian casualties, Hezbollah claimed responsibility and launched dozens of rockets against Israel

In reaction to the deaths of two civilians in a strike blamed on Israel in southern Lebanon, the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon claimed responsibility and fired dozens of rockets toward northern Israel on Tuesday, according to Beirut.

Since October, there has been consistent gunfire in the southern region of Lebanon between Israel and the Hezbollah militia, which is supported by Iran.

“As part of the response to the Israeli enemy’s attacks on… civilian homes, specifically the horrific massacre in Hanin and the killing and injuring of civilians,” Hezbollah claimed in a statement, emphasizing that fighters launched “dozens of Katyusha rockets” toward northern Israel.

Two family members were murdered in an Israeli airstrike on a home in Hanin, close to the Israeli border, according to local rescuers and official media.

According to a civil defense source who spoke with AFP, “a woman in her 50s and a 12-year-old girl have been killed” in the hit, and medical personnel have brought many wounded family members to the hospital.

The attack killed three people and injured six others, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

“A family that had not left… since Israeli attacks started” lived in the two-story home that was “totally destroyed” when “enemy warplanes carried out a raid, firing two air-to-surface missiles and destroying it,” according to the NA.

Since October 7th, Hamas assaults on Israel have sparked war in Gaza, and near-daily battles ensued, displacing tens of thousands on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border.

However, Hezbollah’s rocket strikes against Israeli positions have intensified recently.

In response to what Israel saw as a “significant” fighter’s death, Hezbollah had claimed responsibility for drone strikes on Israeli positions in the north.

The attack went further into Israel than the customary border region that the organization targets.

Hisbollah claimed responsibility for what it called “a combined air attack using decoy and explosive drones that targeted” two Israeli sites north of Acre; Israel, on the other hand, denied any involvement.

The Lebanese organization confirmed on Tuesday morning that Israeli fire had killed one of its members; they added that the victim lived in the neighborhood where his car was hit.

According to an AFP source close to the Iran-backed organization, an engineer serving in the group’s air defense forces was killed in a car crash caused by an Israeli drone attack.

According to an AFP journalist, the attack occurred in the Abu al-Aswad neighborhood, which is close to the seaside city of Tyre and around 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the border.

Everything on the fighter’s vehicle was burned to ash.

Another fighter was slain by Israel, Hezbollah announced in an overnight statement.

Israeli forces claimed responsibility for the deaths of “two significant terrorists in Hezbollah’s aerial unit” in attacks that occurred over the nights and mornings.

The assassinated militant was “heavily involved in the planning and execution of terrorist attacks against Israel,” according to the publication.

Approximately 380 individuals have lost their lives in Lebanon since October 7, with 72 of those casualties being civilians and the majority being Hezbollah combatants, as reported by AFP.

On their side of the border, Israel reports the deaths of eight civilians and eleven troops.
