Because to the heat wave, Aung San Suu Kyi was transferred from a jail in Myanmar to home detention

Due to a heat wave, Aung San Suu Kyi, the imprisoned former leader of Myanmar, has been placed under house arrest as a health precaution, according to the military authorities.

The military’s spokesman, Maj. Gen. General Zaw Min Tun, informed foreign media representatives late Tuesday that Suu Kyi, 78, and Win Myint, 72, the former president of her overthrown government, were among the elderly and sick inmates transferred from jail due to the extreme heat. In Myanmar, the change has not yet been made public.

Suu Kyi has been imprisoned for 27 years in the capital city of Naypyitaw due to a number of criminal convictions that, according to her supporters and human rights organizations, were made up for political purposes. Win Myint was incarcerated at Taungoo, in the Bago area of Myanmar, for eight years.

After the army overthrew the elected government in 2021, imprisoned Aung San Suu Kyi, and started putting down peaceful demonstrations calling for the restoration of democratic governance, a national crisis broke out in Myanmar.
