Byelections to Choose Boris Johnson’s Successor on July 20

After the former prime minister resigned due to an inquiry into his behavior, a by-election vote to fill Boris Johnson’s seat in the British parliament will be held on July 20.

According to a statement released by the party on Thursday, the Conservatives have chosen Steve Tuckwell to represent them in the election.

Following the reading of a parliamentary report on whether he had lied to the legislature over gatherings at his office during COVID lockdowns, Johnson announced last week that he would resign as the representative for the West London district of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

He was found to have intentionally deceived parliament about the unlawful parties, according to the investigation, which was fully disclosed on Thursday. Johnson, though, has called the report a “lie” and a “charade.”

After Boris Johnson resigned as a member of parliament on June 12, a by-election for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip parliamentary district will be held on July 20, 2023, according to a statement from Hillingdon Council.

Johnson resigned as prime minister the previous year.

On the same day, a new by-election will be conducted to replace Nigel Adams, a close friend of Johnson’s who resigned from his seat in North Yorkshire on Saturday.

The by-election to replace conservative legislator Nadine Dorries has yet to be scheduled, despite her pledge to resign in favor of Johnson’s candidacy.
