“Can’t Get Out Of Bed”: Former Prime Minister of Australia Claims He Was “On Meds” for Anxiety

Sydney: In a media interview released on Friday, Australia’s former conservative prime minister Scott Morrison said that throughout his tenure in government, he used medicine for “debilitating” anxiety.

Morrison told The Australian newspaper that the worry he felt in government was “debilitating and agonising.” Morrison’s conservative coalition lost power in May 2022.
For four years, the 55-year-old evangelical Christian leader oversaw catastrophes, including the COVID-19 outbreak and the massive Black Summer bushfires that occurred in 2019 and 2020.

Morrison said, “I think it just built up,” to the newspaper.

He referred to the era as “a very stressful period,” noting the epidemic, hard hours, and challenging ties with China, which put trade obstacles on significant Australian exports during his tenure.

“You’re flesh and blood and so it would start to impact you.”

The article also included quotes from Morrison’s upcoming book, “Plans for Your Good: A Prime Minister’s Testimony of God’s Faithfulness,” which will be published in May. Morrison was given an anxiety medicine prescription by a Canberra doctor.

“My doctor was amazed I had lasted as long as I had before seeking help,” Morrison said in a letter.

“Without this help, serious depression would have manifested.”

According to Morrison, anxiety may have a significant personal influence.

“You can’t get out of bed and you fear what lies ahead. It has the power to physically and psychologically exhaust you. It takes away your happiness and might strain relationships with others. I can attest to this from my own experience.

Morrison, a fervent advocate for the fossil fuel sector, said in January that he was quitting parliament.

As the leader of Australia, he particularly infuriated France when he suddenly brokered a long-standing arrangement with Paris in order to negotiate a deal behind closed doors to obtain US and British nuclear submarine technology.

During the COVID issue, he also covertly nominated himself for a number of ministerial positions without telling his cabinet, the current ministers, or the general public.
