Columbia tells students: evacuate the campsite or risk being suspended

Students at Columbia University have been warned that if they do not vacate the pro-Palestinian encampment that has taken over a central lawn for over two weeks by 2 p.m. (local time) on Monday, they would be suspended immediately.

If students sign a document committing them to upholding all university policies until the conclusion of the next academic year, they won’t be penalized for their involvement.

The alert was issued in response to Columbia President Nemat Shafik’s statement that academic staff and protest organizers were unable to come to a consensus to end the impasse over the encampment, which the administration claims is against university policy.
