Finland becomes the Council of Baltic Sea States’ next president

According to a press release from the Finnish government, Finland will formally hold the president of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) beginning on July 1, 2023, for a period of one year.

According to a press statement, Finland, which will succeed Germany as the president, plans to emphasise comprehensive security, disaster readiness, and resilience as its main topics.

The promotion of a sustainable and affluent area, encouraging regional identity, and building a safe and secure region are three enduring and linked priority that are highlighted in the presidential agenda, it was noted on Saturday.

According to the Finnish government’s presidential plan, the goal of concluding and putting into action the changes decided upon during the German presidency is to guarantee that the CBSS can effectively meet the changing conditions in the area and function efficiently.

The Baltic Sea region’s governments are encouraged to cooperate via the CBSS, an international body that was established in 1992. The Nordic nations, the Baltic states, Germany, Poland, and the EU make up its membership.
