Four Russian oil tycoons have died in office during the conflict in Ukraine

The vice president of Russia’s largest oil and gas company, Lukoil, Vitaly Robertus, is said to have committed suicide at his workplace. As per Lukoil, Robertus passed away on March 12, according to Euro News.

“Lukoil, the biggest oil corporation in Russia, lost deputy CEO Vitaly Robertus to an unexpected death. Roman Sheremeta, a Ukrainian-American economist, tweeted that he was 53 years old without citing a cause of death.

He wrote on X, “Any guesses regarding the cause of death?”

Before passing away, Robertus reportedly complained of headaches and sought medicine before heading to his workplace, according to some stories in the local media.

Later, he was discovered hanging in the space.

He didn’t pick up his phone and stayed for a few hours. When the staff members entered his office, they discovered his corpse. The senior manager committed asphyxia suicide. About thirty years had he worked for the firm,” a Telegram user wrote after Robertus’s death.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started on February 24, 2022, Robertus is the fourth manager of Lukoil and the most recent in a long line of tycoons and billionaires to pass away unexpectedly under suspicious circumstances, according to Euro News.

Alexander Subbotin, the 43-year-old senior manager of Lukoil, was discovered dead in the basement of a home in the village of Mytishchi in May 2022. It is said that a drug-induced heart attack caused his death.

Later, in September 2022, 67-year-old Ravil Maganov, the former chairman of Lukoil, passed away in Moscow’s Central Clinical Hospital after a fall from a window.

The chairman of Lukoil’s board, Vladimir Nekrasov, passed away in late October 2023 at the age of 66 from what the corporation reported to be heart failure.
