Imran Khan Is Behind May 9 Violence Meant To Overthrow Military Leadership, According To Pakistani PM

According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Imran Khan was the architect of the historic anti-government demonstrations that took place throughout Pakistan on May 9 and were intended to topple the military authority.

Following Khan’s May 9 arrest in a corruption case by the paramilitary Rangers, Pakistan experienced widespread anti-government demonstrations on a large scale. Later, 70-year-old Khan was freed on bond.

During the riots, several of military facilities and government structures, including the military headquarters in Rawalpindi, were destroyed or set on fire. More than 100 police and other security agency cars caught fire.

In an interview with Geo News, Sharif said that men, women, a cabal, certain military personnel, and their families were all engaged in the May 9 events, which the powerful military has called “Black Day.”

“Those involved in the incidents on May 9 wanted to overthrow the military leadership,” he said.

The designers, according to the prime minister, want “anarchy” and “war” in the nation.

According to Sharif, who was cited by the Geo News, PTI Chairman Khan was the architect behind the events of May 9.

Over 10,000 PTI members were detained throughout Pakistan after the violent rallies, with 4,000 of them coming from the Punjab region alone, according to law enforcement officials.

Over 16 PTI employees were slain in the assault, according to Khan. Ten fatalities have been reported by police.

Khan is also dealing with other instances involving assaults on military facilities. Over 150 charges including terrorism, murder, and blasphemy are now pending against him. The PTI argues that none of its members took part in the assaults, while the government and military dispute this and claim that they have “irrefutable evidence” to support their participation.

Khan was removed from office in April of last year after losing a vote of no confidence in him, which he said was a result of a US-led plot to assassinate him for his independent foreign policy choices on Russia, China, and Afghanistan. His assertions have been consistently denied by the US.
