In Libya, fighting resulted in 27 deaths and 106 injuries

A fight between two armed groups in Tripoli, Libya, resulted in at least 27 deaths and more than 100 injuries, according to a statement from the nation’s emergency services, which CNN cited.

The emergency services said in a statement that a total of 106 individuals had been hurt.

According to CNN, the conflict started on Monday when Mahmoud Hamza, the leader of the 444 Brigade, was stopped while attempting to enter Tripoli’s major Mitiga airport.

According to CNN, Hamza was captured by the Special Deterrence Force, the 444 Brigade’s major adversary and the organization in charge of the airport.

His detention’s origin is still an open question.

After an agreement was struck with the UN-recognized Government of National Unity to transfer Hamza to a neutral party, the fighting ended late on Tuesday, according to official news agency LANA.

According to LANA, there were civilians among the dead.

Images from the nocturnal skirmishes showed smoke billowing over the city, making the violence the worst of this year.

According to LANA, the agreement calls for the end of all military activities in Tripoli, the relocation of military forces to their barracks, an evaluation of property damage to both public and private property, and the issuance of compensations by the Government of National Unity.

According to a statement made on Tuesday by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the mission is “closely monitoring security events and developments in Tripoli since yesterday and their effect on the civilian population. The Mission reminds all parties concerned of their legal obligation to safeguard civilians.
