India “decreased” its reliance on Russian weaponry

The top US intelligence official testified before Congress that India showed itself as a global leader in 2023 by taking steps to modernize its military and lessen its reliance on equipment made in Russia, as well as by demonstrating a greater willingness to counter China’s activity throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

During a congressional hearing on defense intelligence fighting China, Lt Gen Jeffrey Kruse, the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, made these statements.

Kruse addressed the members of the House Armed Services Committee, which is the subcommittee on intelligence and special operations. “Over the past year, India has demonstrated a greater willingness to counter PRC’s (People’s Republic of China) activity throughout the Indo-Pacific region and showcased itself as a global leader,” Kruse said.

India modernized its military in 2023 in an effort to compete with China and lessen its reliance on hardware made in Russia. India has negotiated the transfer of important defense technology to many Western nations and tested its first indigenously built aircraft carrier at sea, according to Kruse. — PTI
