India, the biggest democracy in the world and a crucial strategic ally: US stories criticizing the Modi government abroad

Delhi, New: The Biden administration said that the two nations’ relationship is anticipated to stay as it is and that India is the biggest democracy in the world as well as a crucial strategic ally of the US. At a news conference on Monday, US State Department spokeswoman Mathew Miller made the comments in answer to a question about US-India relations in light of recent international stories and opinion pieces that have been critical of the Narendra Modi administration in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

What the US asserted about its connections to India
In response to a question concerning how the US will handle its relationship with India in the upcoming days in light of purported “concerns about democratic backsliding in India” and recent remarks made by the State Department about the purported “crackdown on opposition,” Miller said, “India is the largest democracy in the world.” I anticipate that it will continue to be a significant strategic ally of the United States.

Unease in bilateral relations between the US and India
Several US officials have recently referred to India as a “important partner” and emphasized that the two nations’ connections are stronger than ever. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official state visit to the White House last year, however, some underlying tensions between the two nations appear to be developing, particularly in relation to the Sikh separatist movement in the US and the State Department’s announcement regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. India said that “any such external imputation on our electoral and legal processes is completely unacceptable” and vehemently opposed the assertion. US President Joe Biden brought up the matter of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s death in Canada with Prime Minister Modi during the G20 meeting in India last year.
