Iran’s Foreign Minister Seems To Make Fun Of Israel And Downplay The Isfahan Drone Attack As “Toys Our Children Play With”

The drone strike over Isfahan in central Iran early on Friday morning, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, was carried out with armaments more akin to “children’s toys.”

“It was not a strike that occurred last night. According to American broadcaster NBC News, Hossein Amirabdollahian said, “They were more like toys that our children play with—not drones.”

Amirabdollahian, who is now in New York, United States, for a meeting of the UN Security Council, said that Iran would not react to the assault until Israel took major action.

He was cited as adding, “We will not have any new reactions as long as there is no new adventurism by Israel against our interests.”

In addition, Amirabdollahian threatened Israel with immediate and harsh retaliation if it decided to strike Iran. “Our reaction will be swift, severe, and will make Israel regret it if they take decisive action against my country, and  this is proven to us,” he said.

When Israel struck an Iranian consulate facility in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on April 1, tensions between Iran and Israel reached an all-time high. Five Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders and two senior generals were killed in the attack.

After a span of 12 days, Iran retaliated by initiating an unparalleled, frontal military assault on Israel, using over 300 missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Since almost all of the drones and missiles were intercepted by US, UK, and Israeli planes, together with Israeli air defense systems, there was very little damage.

The assault, according to Amirabdollahian, was “a warning.” We had the chance to attack Tel Aviv and Haifa. We also had the option of hitting all of Israel’s commercial ports. However, our red lines were people. The Iranian foreign minister said, “We have a military goal alone.

Israel targeted a military airport close to Isfahan in central Iran on Thursday in retaliation. The Iranian media claimed that there were no injuries and that there had been no damage to the area’s nuclear installations.

According to Avi Melamed, a former Israeli intelligence officer and regional expert, the goal of the strike on Iran was to project deterrence. According to Melamed, “Israel’s strike on Iran early this morning projects deterrence, sending a strong message to Tehran that Israeli counterstrikes are within range should it further escalate,” targeting not just Isfahan and the Iranian nuclear centers nearby, but also the whole nation of Iran.

The top Israeli authorities, meanwhile, mostly remained silent in the face of the assault. According to analysts cited by the news agency Reuters, the public remarks made after the incident suggest that both sides are attempting to reduce tensions.

American authorities urged composure as well. Karine Jean-Pierre, the communications secretary for the White House, said on Friday that “we do not want to see this conflict escalate.”
