Jailed Former Prime Minister Imran Khan Alleges Wife Bushra Bibi At Bani Gala Was Given Food Mixed With “Toilet Cleaner”

Pakistan News: Imprisoned former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has claimed that in an effort to “poison” his wife Bushra Bibi, jail staff laced meals with “toilet cleaner.” At Friday’s Toshakhana case hearing at the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi, Khan informed Judge Nasir Javed Rana that Bushra had food sickness after eating food that had been contaminated with toilet cleaner.

The chief medical officer of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Dr. Asim Yousaf, recommended that Bushra Bibi’s tests be conducted at Shifa International Hospital, according to the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital will be the site of the test, the prison management said.

“Bushra Bibi was fed food laced with bleach.”
Khan observed that more walls had been added to the courtroom, creating an environment more akin to a closed court during the hearing in the £190 million corruption case against him, according to The Express Tribune.

The imprisoned former premier said that Bushra Bibi, his wife, suffered a decline in health as a result of eating meals contaminated with “toilet cleaner.”

Bushra Bibi is now incarcerated in Bani Gala, Imran Khan’s residence in Islamabad. Since her conviction in the “un-Islamic nikah” case in February of this year, Bani Gala has been converted into a sub-jail.

Psychological abuse and poisoning at Bani Gala, according to Bibi
Bushra had filed a motion with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) earlier this month, asking the court to order a check-up and medical testing from Shaukat Khanum facility or any other private facility of her choosing to determine whether or not she had consumed tainted food.

Bushra said in her April 15 plea that she often had heartburn, mouthaches, and throat pain, all of which she attributed to eating hazardous food. Bibi said that the government had placed surveillance cameras in various locations around the room where she has been detained, and she also claimed that she was poisoned and tortured psychologically in her Bani Gala house.

She said that she feels uneasy since there is only one female officer assigned to the sub-jail and that the other staff members are all men. Bibi also argued that she was not given enough time to speak with her attorneys and family and asked the court to guarantee the defense of her basic rights.

Bibi’s appeal for a transfer to Adiala prison is rejected by the court.
In the meantime, Bushra Bibi’s appeal for a transfer from Bani Gala to the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi was denied by the IHC last week. It’s interesting to note that when Bushra Bibi’s attorneys failed to show up for the hearing, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb dismissed the petition.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb questioned the absence of Bushra Bibi’s attorneys, stating, “They (the lawyers) themselves do not want Bushra Bibi to go to jail.” If they had won this case, Bushra Bibi would have gone to [Adiala] jail.

After the plea was dismissed, Usman Gill, the 49-year-old former first lady’s attorney, appeared in court and the judge instructed him to submit an application to have it reinstated.

Imran Khan, the 71-year-old spouse of Bushra, has been detained in the Adiala Jail since August of last year. The husband-and-wife team was previously given a 14-year prison sentence in January of this year in connection with the Toshakhana corruption case, which included the illicit selling of gifts from the state that the former premier had acquired while in office.

After the decision, Bushra showed up to Adiala Jail to turn himself in, and the National Accountability Bureau took him into jail. But when it was announced late at night that it was a sub-jail, she was sent to her Bani Gala home.

Bushra Bibi is still detained in the “un-Islamic” marriage case, while Khan is still behind bars in other charges, even though the IHC delayed their sentences in the Toshakhana corruption case.
