King Abdullah of Jordan will host Sisi of Egypt and Abbas of Palestine for talks on Gaza

Speaking about “dangerous developments” in the war-torn Gaza, Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will be hosted by Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Wednesday, according to the royal palace.

As part of “Jordan’s efforts to coordinate Arab positions to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid,” a statement claimed that the conference will take place in the Red Sea resort city of Aqaba.

The subject of “the situation in the West Bank,” which Israel has occupied since 1967, will also be covered in their discussions.

During a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday, King Abdullah urged the US to apply pressure on Israel to declare a “immediate ceasefire” and address the humanitarian disaster that the Gaza conflict has brought about.

Aid agencies have issued warnings about the catastrophic situation in the Palestinian region, where militants from Hamas conducted an unprecedented assault on October 7 that left roughly 1,140 people dead in Israel, according to an AFP count based on government data. This incident sparked a conflict.

At least 23,210 individuals, predominantly women and children, have died as a result of Israel’s ground invasion and ceaseless bombing of Gaza, according to the health ministry of the Hamas-run region.

Additionally, the palace said that on Sunday, King Abdullah sent a warning to Blinken about “the catastrophic repercussions of continuation of the aggression against Gaza, underlining the necessity of ending the tragic humanitarian crisis” in that region.

Blinken called on Israel to end the crisis before taking any more Palestinian civilian casualties in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

Blinken said that the “daily toll on civilians in Gaza, particularly children, is far too high.”

Furthermore, he demanded that Israel “quit taking actions that undermine Palestinians’ capacity to govern themselves.”

Blinken is traveling with the intention of putting an end to any potential regional spillover of the Israel-Hamas conflict and stopping what he termed a “endless cycle of violence.”
