Major Airlines Cancel Dozens of Flights to Israel Following a Hamas Attack

After the Palestinian organization Hamas conducted a significant strike against Israel this past weekend, major airlines, including Air India, canceled scores of flights to Tel Aviv. According to The Times of Israel, the dead toll from the attack on Saturday was rising by the hour and reached at 300 as of early Sunday morning.

Israeli Defense Forces will annihilate Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a public speech, and “will avenge this dark day that they have forced upon Israel and its citizens.”

American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Ryanair, and Aegean Airlines were among the airlines that cancelled flights, according to the arrivals board at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport. Airport administrators did not, however, halt commercial plane connections with Eilat, Israel’s second international airport and a popular vacation spot on the Red Sea.

According to an AFP report, “Lufthansa is canceling all flights to and from Tel Aviv up to and including Monday due to the present security situation in Tel Aviv. The airline was “monitoring the security situation in Israel,” he said.

In response to the situation in Israel, Air India canceled all of its flights to and from Tel Aviv. The Indian airline canceled all of its planned flights in the sake of the staff and customers’ safety.

The Lufthansa group company Brussels Airline also canceled its flights to Tel Aviv. Flights from Air France to Tel Aviv have been suspended “until further notice.” An Air France representative said that “commercial measures are in place, allowing customers to postpone or cancel their trip free of charge.”

Transavia, a low-cost airline operated by the Air France-KLM group, made a statement announcing the cancellation of all flights from Paris and Lyon to Tel Aviv until Monday. Iberia Express, the Spanish airline’s low-cost division, stated that it will cease operating flights to Tel Aviv.

In order to “protect the safety of passengers and crew,” Italy’s national airline, ITA Airways, postponed its departure until Sunday am at the earliest. Iberia Express, a low-cost division of the Spanish airline, also stated that it will stop operating flights to Tel Aviv.
