Over 3,500 tourists are rescued by the Indian Army from Sikkim after a landslip there

According to a statement made on Saturday, the Indian Army helped over 3,500 visitors who were trapped in Chungthang in North Sikkim because of landslides and obstructions.

According to the press statement, the Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang valleys had strong, torrential rainfall on Friday. “As of June 17, 2023, 3 p.m., more than 2000 travellers have been saved. The announcement said that efforts were being made to restore road connection as visitors were still being evacuated.

In order to enable the rescue of visitors, the Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, and Border Roads Organisation employees “swung into action and worked overnight in heavy rains and inclement weather to create a temporary crossing over the flash flood area,” according to the announcement.

“Tents are being set up, and medical aid posts have been established,” it said. The visitors will get every support necessary till the road is open for their remaining travel.

Additionally, the visitors received assistance in crossing the river, hot meals, tents, and medical care.
The Indian Army is proactive in helping visitors and the local populace while securing the border in the Super High-Altitude regions of the Himalayas.
