Subash Chandra Nembang: Who was he? Former Chair of Nepal’s Constituent Assembly passes away aged 71

This morning, at the age of 71, Subash Chandra Nembang, a well-known member of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist, died away, leaving a vacuum on Nepal’s political scene. Nembang, well-known for his positions as vice-chairman of the CPN-UML, chairperson of the Constituent Assembly, and previous speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), allegedly died of a heart attack. Subaschandra Nembang sadly died of a heart attack at his home on the morning of September 12, 2023. Upon his arrival, the healthcare staff at TU Teaching healthcare declared him dead.

Nembang, a well-known political figure who was born in Suntalabari in the eastern Ilam District, which borders India, won every election from Ilam-2 since democracy was restored in 1990.

He was successful in his political career by winning the parliamentary elections in 1991 and 1999. Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati has stated that Nembang would be sent out with official honors. This choice was decided by the Council of Ministers at an emergency meeting that was called on Tuesday morning.
