Trump meets in New York with the president of Poland

Over dinner on Wednesday in New York, Donald Trump and Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke about the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, according to the former US president’s reelection campaign.

During a one-day reprieve from his hush money criminal trial court hearings, real estate tycoon Trump entertained Duda at his Manhattan residence, Trump Tower.

In a video filmed with Duda, Trump stated, “He’s done a fantastic job and he’s my friend, and we had four great years together” when both men were president at the same time. The video was uploaded on Trump’s Truth Social account.

“We may have to do it again.”

According to the Trump campaign, Duda suggested that NATO nations raise their military expenditure goals from two percent to three percent of GDP.

Trump has often attacked NATO, claiming that its members do not contribute what he regards as their fair part.

“They also discussed the war between Russia and Ukraine, the conflict with Israel in the Middle East, and many other topics having to do with getting to world peace,” the campaign stated in a statement.

As foreign nations get ready for the prospect of a second Trump administration, the Republican nominee for president has been engaging in a kind of covert diplomacy when not embroiled in legal processes.

He has been engaging with world leaders and criticizing President Joe Biden, his opponent in November, for his foreign policies.

Trump had Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his Florida estate Mar-a-Lago last month, and he and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron spoke about NATO strategy and the conflict in Ukraine last week.

During the 77-year-old’s last term in the White House, Duda and Trump were close friends, with Poland putting its relationship with the US above its ties with the EU at times.

Duda, a conservative, even suggested establishing a US military installation called “Fort Trump” in Poland.

More than a month passed before Duda congratulated Biden on winning the presidency amid Trump’s deceptive claims that called into doubt his own defeat in the 2020 election.
