U.S. Exemplifies Concern Over “Potential Risk Of Sanctions” in Connection With Trade Deal With Iran

Washington: The United States issued a warning to Pakistan on Tuesday (local time) about the “potential risk of sanctions,” and it said that it would keep disrupting and taking steps against proliferation networks that investigate possible economic transactions with Iran.

In a statement, US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasized that the US will persist in disrupting and taking action against proliferation networks and procurement activities related to weapons of mass destruction, regardless of their location. This includes suppliers to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program. In general, I would want to warn everyone thinking about doing business with Iran about the possibility of sanctions. However, in the end, Pakistan’s government may address its own foreign policy initiatives.

Addressing the presser, Patel responded to a question on the rationale for the sanctions by saying, “The sanctions were made because these were entities that were proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and the means of their delivery.”

“These were entities based in the PRC in Belarus and that we have witnessed to have supplied equipment and other items to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program…,” said the official.

Also, Patel warned that anybody thinking about doing business with Iran should be mindful of the possibility of sanctions, bringing up the Iranian president’s trip to Pakistan and the memorandums of understanding (MOUs) inked between the two nations.

The two nations struck eight bilateral agreements during President Raisi’s three-day visit to Pakistan, and the spokeswoman hinted that sanctions might put these partnerships at risk due to Iran’s international stature.

According to Samaa, the talks between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Raisi highlighted the two countries’ common goal of strengthening political, economic, commercial, and cultural links.

Eight memorandums of understanding were signed earlier today by Iran and Pakistan to facilitate cooperation in various fields. The signing of the MoU was observed by Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran.

Security issues, judicial assistance in civil proceedings, and veterinary and animal health cooperation were all covered by the treaties.

The United States Department of State recognized four organizations last week to combat the spread of WMD and its delivery systems. Both Pakistan’s short- and long-range missile programs rely on the supplies provided by these organizations.

Among these organizations was the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant in Belarus, which has supplied Pakistan with unique vehicle chassis for its long-range ballistic missile development.
