Xi Jinping: “The US and China should be partners, not rivals” to Antony Blinken

Beijing: Top US diplomat Antony Blinken was informed by Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday that the two largest economies in the world ought to be “partners, not rivals,” but that there were still “many issues” that needed to be worked out in their relationship.

Meeting Blinken in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Xi told state television CCTV that the two nations had “made some positive progress” since his meeting with US President Joe Biden last year.

“There are still a number of issues that need to be resolved, and there is still room for further efforts,” Xi said.

The Chinese leader went on, “I proposed three major principles: win-win cooperation, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect.”

“The earth is big enough to hold the common development and prosperity of China and the United States,” he said.

“China would be pleased to see a confident, open, prosperous, and developing United States,” added Xi.

“We hope the US can also take a positive view of China’s development,” he said.

“When this fundamental problem is solved, relations can truly stabilise, get better, and move forward.”
