Kerala state’s well-known harvest celebration is about to start. The Malayalam New Year, known as Kolla Varsham, begins with Onam, one of the biggest holidays celebrated by the Malayali people with tremendous fervor and passion. This festival, also known as Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam, is observed every year between the months of August and September.

Day 1: Atachamayam
The Onam festival in Kerala officially begins on the first day of celebrations, and it is a time when you may see the local traditional art forms. Also known as Thripunithura Athachamayam, this rite is a well-known procession that has elephants, drum beats, folk dances, and individuals wearing vibrantly colored clothing.
Day 2: Chithira Day

Day 8: Pooradam Day
People make miniature pyramid-shaped idols called “Ma” on the eighth day of the witnesses, which are then decked with a variety of lovely flowers.
Day 9: Day of Uthradom
On the second-to-last day of Onam celebrations, known as Uthradom Day, people start to welcome King Mahabali, clean their homes, and adorn their pookalams with new, fresh flowers.
Day 10: Thiruvonam Day
The people of Kerala exchange greetings for the joyous holiday on the last day of Onam, known as Thiruvonam, and decorate their homes with rice flour batter to welcome King Mahabali.
