Locals and visitors celebrate as Ladakh is covered with a thick layer of snow

After further snowfall on Monday, Ladakh, sometimes referred to as the “Land of High Passes,” has started to offer joy to both residents and visitors. Snow enveloped Drass, a small town in the Kargil known as the “Gateway to Ladakh,” in a white blanket.

Images show a guy using a shovel to remove snow from in front of his house as gentle flakes fall.

Additional images of the region covered in snow show the white-draped tree trunks and twigs. People’s vehicles are hidden from view by a heavy layer of snow, making them seem white.

Two weeks ago, Kargil had its first big snowfall, providing much-needed respite in Ladakh. Farmers battling through a long, dry winter found some comfort in the snow. A fresh snowfall of one to five inches revitalized the region’s expectations for the farmers’ agricultural prosperity.

Thankful local farmers Mohd Sadiq from Goma in Kargil emphasized the significance of this snowy winter for a fruitful summer, particularly in light of the region’s protracted drought-like circumstances. The village officials expressed hope for increased water supplies and said that they expect this to have a favorable effect on agricultural conditions in general. On Monday, Sawjian village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district also saw new snowfall.

After a recent snowfall in the valley’s upper reaches, international skiers and adventure seekers have also been drawn to Gulmarg, a winter paradise in Jammu & Kashmir. Ladakh experiences its winter from November to February, when abundant snowfall covers the area in a thick layer of snow. The typical temperature at this time of year is between -25 and -10 degrees Celsius, and the whole city has a picturesque appearance.
