The Most Expensive Tea in India Is Found in Darjeeling, Costing 1.5 Lakh

However, even the most ardent tea aficionados would reconsider before parting with what has been dubbed the priciest tea in India.

This tea, priced at an astounding 1.5 lakh a kilogram, is available in a store hidden down Mall Road in Darjeeling that offers more than 300 distinct types to choose from. Although this is one of their more expensive teas, they also have several that are more reasonably priced, according to Gautham Mondal, the business owner, in a statement to ANI. However, this particular tea is unique since it is uncommon. White tea is made only from the tips of the infant leaves of tea plants, and they only produce 15–20 kg of it annually.

These delicate buds and unopened leaves are taken from the tea plant’s most recent development, and they are carefully selected by hand and dried right away. Unlike leaves used for the manufacturing of green or black tea, this quick technique avoids lengthy oxidation. As a consequence, it is a wonderful, fresh tea that is distinguished from ordinary tea leaves by its mild flavor profile and very light color.

Darjeeling is renowned worldwide for producing exceptional tea, with varieties being savored on a regular basis. Tea has been a major contributor to the city’s economy since the 1800s, and some 17,500 hectares of land are used to grow the vast variety of teas that are produced there.

Many comments justified the price tag by pointing to the expertise of Darjeeling’s tea producers and their unwavering devotion to their art, despite the fact that many others were horrified by the cost and promised they would never pay that much on tea.
