15 members of five gangs are detained in Telangana for IPL match betting

Over the last two weeks, with the IPL season in full swing, Cyberabad SOT sleuths have been consistently busting online cricket betting gangs. The SOT captured five gangs, detained fifteen members, and took Rs 2.41 crore from them only over the weekend.

Cyberabad SOT DCP Srinivas said, “We have also located 80 bank accounts connected to these gangs and have asked that the funds be frozen.” “I suspect these accounts would have over Rs 10 crore,” he continued.

The law and order police, together with the SOTs of Shamshabad, Balanagar, and Madhapur, clamped down on organizers, bookmakers, and punters inside the boundaries of Cyberabad in five different incidents.

Five online betting applications were shut down and Rs 79 lakh was confiscated by the investigators in one of the incidents. After apprehending Pondhuri Suresh, they discovered that he ran a betting operation for three years under the primary organizer, Ramanjaneyulu, recruiting 350 bettors who contributed around Rs 4.5 crore.

Five bookmakers were detained in Balanagar, and two separate gangs were found to have approximately Rs 14 lakh in cash. Four people were detained by the SOT in Dundigal, and they also took action against an app that had attracted 19 users in the previous month alone.

The SOT discovered that the primary organizers, who are presently on the run, are based in Bengaluru and Dubai while apprehending a gang in Miyapur.

The DCP said that these organizers’ bank accounts, which they had used to conduct bets, are now being blocked. Cyberabad CP Avinash Mohanty said, “We will investigate the possibility of sending notices to the absconding persons.”

Mohanty said, “The amount of transactions would definitely be around 10 to 30 times more than what we have seized,” while discussing the money involved in online cricket betting.
