A Bhojpuri musician reverses course and runs for office in the Asansol LS elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh from Asansol, West Bengal, on Wednesday. Singh did a U-turn and said that he would run for office “to fulfill the promises made to the people and his mother.”

After being nominated as the BJP’s candidate on the party’s first list, which was made public earlier this month, Singh had previously declined to run in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Asansol.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s upper echelon. He had written on “X” that “The party trusted me and declared me the candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol, but for some reason, I will not be able to contest the elections from Asansol.”

The Bhojpuri singer, who is well-known for his smash album “Lollipop Lagelu,” will compete against legendary Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha, the TMC’s nominee from Asansol.

The TMC had attacked the saffron party for its selection of candidates and said Singh’s songs vulgarly portrayed women when the BJP declared Singh as its Asansol candidate.
