A book highlighting PM Modi’s role in transforming disaster management has been released by Dhami

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, formally unveiled a book on Tuesday in Dehradun that outlines Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to bring about a “paradigm shift” in the country’s disaster management system.

A statement from the sixth World Congress on Disaster Management noted that the book, “RESILIENT INDIA: How Modi Transformed India’s Disaster Management Paradigm,” was launched there.

The book, which was edited and put together by Bluekraft Digital Foundation and Modi Story, gives credit to Modi for bringing about a “gigantic shift in India’s disaster management paradigm” and explores many aspects of his political and personal journey on social media.

It involves adjustments to the way many aspects of disaster management are handled, such as community involvement, preparation, resilience, capacity development, and disaster risk reduction.

“It is a window to see through the efforts to understand Narendra Modi’s approach towards creating a Resilient India, the journey of India from being vulnerable to more prepared and resilient,” added the statement.

As the RSS’s pracharak, Modi, who was 29 at the time, oversaw the organization’s disaster management efforts during the 1979 Morbi dam burst, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, the statement said.

It was his first time participating in a disaster management drill firsthand. He had a thorough understanding of a resilient country as a result of his experiences in Morbi, the report said, adding that he used this knowledge to managing the aftermath of the 2001 Kutch earthquake, which had lost over 13,000 lives.

After taking on a voluntary role at initially, he led the enormous reconstruction and development operations in Kutch when he was appointed Gujarat’s chief minister later that year.

“Gujarat became the first state to enact a law for disaster management – ‘Gujarat State Disaster Management Act 20023’, which became a precursor to a national law in 2005,” stated the statement.

The book talks into depth on how Modi handled the 2020 Covid epidemic and the floods in Kashmir in 2015.
