A PGI study suggests that Punjabi farmer Preetpal may have been attacked

The PGI-Chandigarh has not ruled out the possibility of a physical assault by blunt force, less than a month after farmer Preetpal’s father filed a lawsuit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, claiming that his son was put in a sack and taken away by the Haryana Police after he was injured during the farm protest.

The PGI said in the report it submitted before Justice Harkesh Manuja’s Bench that it believed the injuries to have lasted for around two weeks. There were four really serious injuries. According to the study, “every injury is caused by blunt force impact, with the exception of one that is caused by the application of a ligature.”

Preetpal Singh’s declaration should be recorded, according to Justice Manuja, who cited the nature of the “multiple grievous injuries sustained in addition to the medical opinion expressed by the board of medical officers constituted by Rohtak and Chandigarh PGIs.”

“Therefore, after receiving the required authorization from the attending physicians, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, is urged to visit the PGI, Chandigarh emergency ward and record Preetpal’s statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the injuries he sustained,” declared Justice Manuja.

On the prior hearing date, the Bench had requested that the Chandigarh PGI Director form a medical board to investigate “the injuries sustained by Preetpal.” In response to a habeas corpus petition, a warrant officer was appointed and given a “roving writ” to hunt for the prisoner who had been stopped at Khanauri and was “part of peaceful farmers’ agitation.”

The petitioner, who brought his case before Justice Manuja’s Bench, said that the Haryana Police entered Punjabi land in the afternoon of February 21 and then attacked him and other people. The petitioner had claimed that he was attacked and suffered injuries to both his legs and head.
