Addl CEO assesses election-related activities and vote readiness in Kapurthala

Harish Nayar, Punjab’s Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), met with authorities at the District Administrative Complex on Thursday to discuss election-related activities and poll preparation.

Nayar emphasized the need of making all the necessary preparations in order to ensure a smooth voting process for voters. In order to accomplish the ECI’s aim of “Is vaar 70 paar” (this time, the voting percentage should be over 70%), he suggested that continuous awareness campaigns should be stepped up at the local level.

In light of the June weather, Nayar gave SSP Vatsala Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, and other senior officials instructions to ensure that sufficient provisions were made for voters’ comfort at voting places.

When necessary, he urged, tents and other voter amenities should be made available on time. Nayar said that in order to meet the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) goal of more than 70% voting, attention should be directed at the regions that had lower voting rates in previous years.

It is necessary to identify the places where there has historically been low voter participation in addition to implementing comprehensive awareness initiatives in these regions. Furthermore, it is essential to guarantee the involvement of students and individuals with impairments,” he said.

Panchal informed the Additional CEO that, out of the four Assembly segments, the local Virsa Vihar will host the vote counting. Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi are part of the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency. Similarly, the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency included the Bholath and Phagwara Assembly segments, and Hoshiarpur would be the only location for vote counting.

The Additional CEO was informed by SSP Vatsala Gupta about the security measures put in place to uphold law and order and guarantee free and fair elections. Not only had special checkpoints been established around the region to monitor anti-social groups, but 63,000 kg of lahan had already been recovered, according to her statement.
