Along with 14 other BJP MLAs, Jairam Thakur was suspended from the Himachal Assembly

Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania dismissed 15 BJP MLAs on Wednesday for reportedly chanting slogans and acting inappropriately in the Speaker’s chamber. One of the MLAs banned was Jairam Thakur, the leader of the opposition.

The following MLAs have been suspended: Hans Raj, Janak Raj, Balbir Verma, Puran Thakur, Inder Singh Gandhi, Randheer Sharma, Vipin Singh Parmar, Hans Raj, Surender Shori, Deep Raj, and Inder Singh Gandhi.

The action was taken the day after the BJP, supported by MLAs from the state’s governing Congress party, crossed-pollinated to win the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the state, which went to Harsh Mahajan against Congressman Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Earlier in the day, Thakur stated that Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla was informed about the events of Tuesday by a delegation of the BJP parliamentary party, and they requested Shukla to make sure that voting division is allowed during the budget.

According to PTI, Thakur told reporters, “We are concerned that Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania might suspend the BJP MLAs so that the budget could be passed in the Vidhan Sabha.”

He added, “According to our information, Congress MLAs who supported the BJP candidate received notices asking them to explain why they shouldn’t face consequences under the anti-defection law.”

The 68-member Assembly is composed of 25 MLAs for the BJP, 40 MLAs for the Congress, and 3 seats for Independents.
