Amritsar Admn makes every effort to encourage people to utilize their right to vote

On several city roads, passersby are greeted with slogans in Punjabi and English that mimic well-known dialogues from Bollywood films: “Arey O Sambha, Kado Hai Votan,” “Ajj Vote Payi Hai, Magambo Khush Hoya,” “Iss Vaar Vote Pauni Nahi Bhulanga,” “Tuhadi Vote, Tuhadi Zimaywari,” “Punjabiyon, Ho Jayo Tayar, Iss Vaar Karange Voting 70% Paar,” and “Don’t underestimate the power of your vote.” The well-known line from the movie Karan-Arjun, “Mere Karan Arjun Vote Den Jarur Jange, Te Main Vi Jawangi,” is painted on a wall in the city. The actress Rakhi played the role.

In the Amritsar district, flyovers that link different areas of the city are using magnificent wall murals and graffiti to promote inspirational and uplifting messages. The young and inexperienced voters are being inspired to exercise their right and responsibility to vote by these enormous wall murals.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ghanshyam Thori provided information about the program, stating that the District Election Office has been educating the public about ethical voting and voting participation through Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities. Two flyovers are utilized for election-related craft projects; one is on Kitchlew Chowk, linking the Golden Gate to the train station.

According to Thori, the intention behind the graffiti was to encourage more people to vote in the next Lok Sabha elections.

“We have finished five murals at Kitchlew Chowk, Ram Bagh Chowk, Golden Gate, Hussainpura Chowk, and the bus stop in front of Sangam Cinema. There is ongoing graffiti activity at two other places. Young people in our nation have a fervent fan base for movie stars. The purpose of these graffiti is to leverage their fan base as a means of teaching young people about their democratic right to vote. The city is now more colorful thanks to these wall murals. The youngsters were consulted in selecting the topic matter, according to Thori.

“We hope that all 47,078 of our first-time voters will cast a ballot. All first-time voters will also get certificates of gratitude from us. According to the DC, wall murals are meant to evoke the feeling of an election while also reminding young people of their civic responsibility and motivating them to cast a ballot.
