ASI seen accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500

On Wednesday, ASI Gurpreet Singh, who was working at the Jodhewal police station in the Ludhiana Commissionerate, was caught red-handed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) after taking a bribe of Rs 4,500.

An official state VB spokesman revealed this information here today, stating that the culprit was taken into custody based on a complaint made by Vijay Kumar, a Kakowal Road resident in Ludhiana City.

He added that the complainant had gone to the Vigilance Bureau and said that in exchange for the ASI filing a chargesheet in a police case he had filed, the complainant was asked to pay Rs 4,500.

He claimed that the suspect was requesting the remaining Rs 4,500 after having previously accepted Rs 20,500 in installments as a bribe.

Following an initial investigation, the VB team set up a trap, according to the spokesman, and the suspect was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs 4,500 from the complainant in front of two official witnesses.

In this context, he said, a charge under the Prevention of Corruption Act was filed against the police officer at the Ludhiana range’s VB police station. There was still work being done on the case, and the suspect was scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
