At an All-Party Meeting, the Congress demanded that Manipur be discussed in Parliament and that 31 bills be taken up

Prior to the monsoon session of the Parliament, which starts tomorrow, the Center called a meeting of all parties today to discuss a number of concerns. Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, presided over the Delhi meeting. Parties argued for a range of topics to be debated during the parliament session, including the violence in Manipur, the Uniform Civil Code, and women’s representation in legislatures.

It is well-known that the all-party meeting on the eve of the session’s start is a regular occasion when different political parties present their problems in front of top government ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already taken part in a lot of these sessions. A similar all-party meeting was also requested by Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chair of the Rajya Sabha, but it was postponed on Tuesday owing to the unavailability of several party leaders.

In connection with the all-party conference that the government had convened, it has been reported that Rajnath Singh, the minister of defense, met with several of his cabinet members, including Pralhad Joshi, the minister of parliamentary affairs, and Piyush Goyal, the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha. According to media sources, separate meetings of BJP leaders would be conducted on Wednesday, followed by meetings of the BJP-led NDA, in an effort to determine the strategy for the parliamentary session.

Conversations during the multi-party meeting
The Congress said that it takes two hands to clap and requested a debate on Manipur during the Monsoon Session of Parliament in order for the government to allow the opposition’s concerns to be heard. “Two months have gone, yet Narendra Modi, the prime minister, is still mute. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, made the comments after attending the meeting. “I would like to propose that he should at least make a statement in Parliament and enable us to conduct a discussion.

While this was going on, Telangana’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Andhra Pradesh’s YSRCP, and Odisha’s governing Biju Janata Dal all made arguments for legislative approval of women’s suffrage in legislatures. BJD also advocated for the state to be given special category status.

IUML leader ET Muhammed Basheer said that the government should refrain from enacting a uniform civil code in the middle of the uproar. The head of the Samajwadi Party, ST Hasan, reaffirmed the opposition of his party to the code. “We would want to talk about the UCC (Uniform Civil Code). Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of our party, has said that they would always oppose legislation that attempts to polarize society.

Bills to be discussed
The contentious Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023, and the Government of NCT of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023 are among the 31 legislation that the government is expected to take up during the monsoon session of the parliament. The Uniform Civil Code was not found on the list.

“We would vehemently disagree with this Delhi Ordinance. AAP leader Sanjay Singh stated, “We appreciate all those (opposition parties) who have backed us over this. The Congress and other opposition parties have offered their support to the Aam Aadmi Party as it gets ready to reject the bill.

BJP-Opposition conflict
As both the BJP and the Opposition parties intensify their assaults on one another in front of a number of state elections this year and the Lok Sabha election in 2024, the Parliament session is predicted to be turbulent. Along with the concerns of price increases and alleged abuse of investigative agencies, the Congress and other opposition parties are attempting to put pressure on the administration over the Manipur situation.
