Bengaluru: Section 144 Will Be Implemented For The Lok Sabha Elections From April 24-26

As the second round of voting for the Lok Sabha elections approaches on April 26, the municipal officials of Bengaluru have declared that they would implement strict steps to ensure peace and security during this election cycle. Within the boundaries of the Bengaluru city commissionerate, prohibition orders according to Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) will be in force from 6 p.m. on April 24 to midnight on April 26.

Commissioner B. Dayananda of the Bengaluru City Police issued the order, which lays out a number of limitations meant to avert any unfortunate events during the election season. Principal proscriptions include assemblies exceeding five individuals, demonstrations, open forums, harboring deadly armaments and explosives, and showcasing and incinerating effigies. Furthermore, it will be completely forbidden to deliver aggressive statements or to openly display political slogans.

Additionally, during the specified time, campaigning and the usage of posters and banners would not be allowed within a 100-meter radius of voting places, according to a report from the Deccan Herald. Additionally, it is forbidden for anybody other than officials or staff members with express authorization from the District Election Officer (DEO) to carry cell phones, cordless phones, or other electronic devices within the same vicinity.

Commissioner Dayananda emphasized the need to respect the model code of conduct and preserve peace and order, but she also made it clear that marriages and other approved processions are allowed as long as they don’t interfere with elections or cause disturbances to the public. Interestingly, funeral processions are not subject to the prohibitions.

Bengaluru’s Dry Day
Apart from these steps, there will be two important times when a “dry day” is used in Bengaluru: the voting dates are between 12 and 27 April, and the vote counting takes place between 12 and 4 June. The city will not allow the selling of alcohol during these times, whether in stores, pubs, hotels, restaurants, or taverns. Nonetheless, food and non-alcoholic beverage service will continue to be available in hotels and restaurants.

Bengaluru’s Date of Election
An important election battlefield, Bengaluru, is preparing for its turn in the polls. There will be seven stages of the elections, encompassing a total of 543 seats, and they will take place between April 19 and June 1. The four Lok Sabha seats in Bengaluru are scheduled to go to polls on April 26. Karnataka will have 28 seats up for election across two phases.

On April 26, the people of Bengaluru—which includes the constituencies of Bangalore South, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, and Bangalore Rural—will cast their ballots.
