Bhitarkanika will shut in order to count the crocodiles

Due of the yearly saltwater crocodile census, Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district will impose a nine-day tourist access restriction from January 4 to January 13, 2024, according to Manas Das, the park’s forest range officer.

The Bhitarkanika river system, in addition to countless streams, water inlets, and nullahs, will be counted by the enumerators with assistance from trained local forest employees and a few herpetologists, including renowned crocodile researcher Sudhakar Kar.

The task of counting the crocodiles will fall to a total of 22 teams. The officer said, “We will be teaching about 100 people how to count reptiles in the near future.”
