Bhiwani village, suffering from a water deficit, is threatening to abstain from voting

Due to the ongoing issue of the village’s lack of drinkable water, a social panchayat in the district of Lohani has threatened to abstain from voting in the Lok Sabha elections. The villagers resolved to abstain from voting in the summer if the issue continued, at a meeting that was attended by notable members of the panchayat and society.

A rural resident named Dr. Lakhwinder said that the community has been dealing with a severe scarcity of drinkable water for many years. The Jui Canal provides water to the village’s waterworks. The water that the locals need to buy is provided by tankers, who charge between Rs 500 and Rs 700 per tanker,” the man said.

Dinesh, another resident, said that they had brought up the issue several times with the district government. “The villagers will have to deal with the hardship of not having a sufficient supply of drinkable water as summer approaches,” he said. “The village’s water tanks have a 24-day storage capacity,” stated Sarpanch Ashok Singh. To no effect, we have made many representations to the district administration.

I disagreed with the meeting’s plan to boycott the poll. Tomorrow, I will have another meeting with the Deputy Commissioner in Bhiwani to discuss the matter further.

With more than 2,000 households, the town has around 4,500 votes.
