BJP and the Vasan-led TMC solidify their alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

As a member of the BJP-led NDA, the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) would compete in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party’s leader G K Vasan said here on Monday.

He informed reporters here that on February 27, he will be present at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public gathering at Palladam in the Tirupur district.

“The BJP will lead the Tamil Manila Congress in the upcoming elections as it is a part of the NDA,” he said.

With Vasan’s declaration, the BJP has successfully formed its first formal alliance in Tamil Nadu ahead of the elections, despite its initial efforts to form a coalition apart from the incumbent DMK and AIADMK.

Vasan’s declaration signifies his party’s break from the AIADMK. Vasan was a member of the AIADMK-led NDA coalition in Tamil Nadu, which was up for election in the 2021 Assembly.

The AIADMK, under by Edappadi K Palaniswami, said in September 2023 that it was cutting its links to the BJP.

Vasan claimed that his party has had a “national outlook” ever since its foundation by his late father and seasoned leader G K Moopanar. He cited the welfare of Tamil Nadu and its people as well as the desire for a powerful and wealthy India as reasons for the party’s decision to join forces with the BJP.

Voters in Tamil Nadu, who saw the BJP win the previous two elections with strong backing from other states, want the saffron party to win a third term in order to guarantee economic growth and the improvement of the state’s impoverished citizens.

The former union minister said, “They have realized” that, among other things, another term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi would result in economic success and a decrease in poverty.
