Bricks were thrown at the officials’ car by the NIA team during their attack in East Midnapore, Bengal

While looking into a blast case from 2022 at the home of a Trinamool Congress official in Bhupatinagar, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) came under assault on Saturday morning in the West Bengal district of East Midnapore.

According to preliminary accounts, the NIA team’s car’s windshield was damaged when bricks were thrown at it. As of as now, no injuries have been recorded. The event happened at 5:30 in the morning local time, according to an HT report.

The NIA team had come to Bhupatinagar to look into an explosion that had happened at a Trinamool Congress leader’s house on December 3, 2022. Sadly, three people lost their lives in the explosion.

Eight TMC leaders were called in by the NIA last month to be questioned about their possible role in the explosion. But the TMC has charged that the BJP was behind the NIA’s operations. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the BJP sent the NIA a list of TMC politicians from the Purba Medinipur area, along with an arrest strategy.

Only two months have passed since an identical incident between Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers and the NIA team. A crowd fought ED officers during a search at the home of Shahjahan Sheikh, a suspended local TMC politician connected to state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, who was detained.

The crowd threw stones at the ED officers’ cars in an effort to stop them from taking Sheikh with them. As a result, the ED team’s escorting Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troops had to step in to restore order, and three ED officers had to be admitted to the hospital.
