BRS leader K Kavitha is denied bail by the SC in an ED case involving the Delhi excise policy scandal

Leader of the BRS K Kavitha, who was detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam, was denied bail by the Supreme Court on Friday.

Kavitha was called to appear before the trial court by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh, and Bela M. Trivedi. They said that this court is bound by procedure and cannot circumvent it.

Regarding Kavitha’s argument against the terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the bench said that the ED would be notified by the court and asked to respond within six weeks.

Senior attorney Kapil Sibal, who was representing Kavitha, was informed by the court that the petition contesting the clauses will be considered with the other cases.

Sibal said right away that an approver’s declaration is the foundation for arrests. The bench said that it will not discuss the case’s merits at this time.

In relation to the Delhi excise policy issue, Kavitha has filed a petition with the highest court contesting her detention by the ED.

Daughter of former state chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kavitha is a member of the Telangana Legislative Council. She was taken into custody by the ED on March 15 and placed under detention till March 23.
