Captain Brijesh Chowta: who is he? BJP’s choice for the seat in Dakshina Kannada

In preparation for the impending Lok Sabha elections, the BJP unveiled its second list of 72 candidates on Wednesday.

Captain Brijesh Chowta, an Indian Army veteran, has been promoted to Dakshina Kannada from the position of former state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel in Karnataka.

Following his nomination, Katee paid Chowta a visit and expressed her congratulations.

Chowta later wrote, “Happy to have met our incumbent MP, Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel, who has represented our region for the last ten years,” in a post on X. CAPTAIN BRIJESH CHOWTA: WHO IS SHE?
43-year-old Chowta, a science graduate, became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) when he joined the BJP in 2013. He is now the BJP’s State Secretary for Karnataka.

He had held a number of other positions in the BJP, including that of Dakshina Kannada’s District General Secretary, from which he is running in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In his X profile, he also characterizes himself as a “cultural and political activist” in addition to an “entrepreneur.”.

ARMY CARRIER
From 2003 until 2010, Chowta was a member of the Indian Army for seven years. Upon graduation from the Officer Training Academy, he received a commission into the 8th Gorkha Rifles’ 7th Battalion. Chowta participated in counter-insurgency operations in Manipur and Assam during his brief military tenure.

Following his discharge from the Army, Chowta enrolled in the Indian Institute of Management’s (IIM) Indore’s Executive Business Management program.

Currently serving as the State Secretary of the BJP’s Karnataka chapter, Chowta is deeply engaged in local politics.
